Stopped in Morehead City for reprovisioning. Probably could have gone further to Swansboro, which is better (easier) for provisioning but we were ready for some dock time after 6 nights on the hook. Not a good anchorage at Morehead.
Portside Marina in Morehead is an awesome spot. Very basic accommodations, but the southern hospitality we received from the owner, Denard, and his crew was first class. We would definitely stop here again if transmitting the ICW. And, free laundry!
We liked the Doggie Docks, but not sure Caleb did 🙂
Morehead City did not excite us, but it’s a good stopover on the ICW if you are in need of a stop in that area. Highly recommend Floyd’s Restaurant for a meal (Fido is welcome on their outdoor patio), which has live music on the weekends.
Enjoyed watching the sport fishers come in with fresh catch.
Timing the tides, we left Morehead around 9:00 a.m. in order to catch the flood tide south to Swansboro. We had 15-20 knots out of the NE. No sailing here for sure. The ICW is very shallow outside the channel, and crosswinds require attention to stay off the shoals. Nice cool temperatures made for a great ride.
Homes along ICW coming into Swansboro, and looking south off the ICW out to the Atlantic at Bogue Inlet. Palm trees are starting to become a common site!
Really enjoyed Swansboro … Think we could live here. Very cool little town, but not a sailing mecca. Enjoyed a Sunday night concert in the town square.
Jimmy Buffet’s custom sport fisher, Last Mangoe II, came in next to us at the marina. Darn, it was just crew onboard. Check out the matching SUP boards mounted up top.
And, he had a Yeti!
Currently, underway to Mile Hammock Bay to anchor for the night, then on to Wrightsville Beach tomorrow.
