Mile Hammock Bay … It’s a dredged basin which is part of the marine corps Camp Legeune. I wonder where the name came from? Trever??
Some of the most beautiful sunsets we’ve seen were there though, and although we had heard it could be quite noisy at night due to artillery fire, it was very quiet. Just us and two other boats anchored.
Not much to do here other than relax in the cockpit, so we took a selfie, made pizzas for dinner, and went to sleep with the sound of the waves off the New River Inlet.
Left at o’dark-thirty this morning headed for Wrightsville Beach. Rainy and thunderstorms, although only a 20% chance was forecasted.
Howard decided he could actually see the channel marks better in the rain, so he was ok with the inclement weather.
It was a 40 mile run, but with 3 bridges and switching currents, it took us 8 hours. We sweet talked the bridge tenders, but to no avail …. They still stuck to their scheduled openings.
A pink house along the way.
The Wrightsville anchorage is one of the best ones yet, although i expect is probably quite bumpy on weekends due to high boat traffic. We are anchored in the bight at the Motts and Banks channel merge.
Some sights along the channel coming in.
We are going to hang here for two nights, and then decide whether to stay longer or move further south to Southport and Bald Head Island.
At the moment, sipping wine and listening to the dolphins surface around the boat. Goodnight 🙂
