After a good nights sleep, we parked the car (aka, dinghy) at the dinghy dock along with all 168 other dinghies, and headed into town for lunch, sightseeing, and to catch up with some other Stingray Harbor boaters who are also headed south, Ivan and Joy on their boat “Wisp in the Wind”.
We checked out Flagler College, which was the former Hotel Ponce de Leon built in 1888 by railroad magnate, Henry Flagler. What a beautiful place to go to college!
The ceiling of the rotunda is gorgeous. Made me dizzy trying to take this pic.
The gutter spouts were metal sculptured dragon heads.
Howard and Ivan in the entrance courtyard to the college.
We all checked out the Lightner Museum, but did not go in. Today, we just took pictures (and selfies) in the garden. The museum is formerly the Hotel Alcazar, also built around 1888 by Henry Flagler, and directly across street from the college.
We trekked around the historic district in the afternoon, stopped in for an afternoon cerveza and some acoustical music at local pub, then hooked up for dinner at Harry’s, which is a great restaurant with a large walled garden patio that is dog-friendly!
Some pics from around town.
No, this is not the fountain of youth. We have not made it there yet.
Historical art galleries existed along this street.
Bowsprit of the Schooner Freedom.
Lions are a symbol of the Spanish royal family and present in a lot of the architecture.
Nighttime shot of the Bridge of Lions bridge as we returned to the boat in the mooring field. Named after two lion statues that guard the north entrance. This is one of the most beautiful of the ICW bridges we have seen.
