Offshore and Sailing!

We had planned on going offshore from Lake Worth down to Ft. Lauderdale, but did not have a good weather window for doing so. It was at least 4 days before a break in the weather seemed possible, and even with bridges, we could make it in two days on the inside.

Once we got to Ft. Lauderdale, we got a break in the weather for the short 20 or so miles down to Miami on the outside.  It’s an easy run, and we had great conditions with a 10-15 knot beam reach to start, but then the wind clocked around and it was wing and wing down the Atlantic coast.

We motored into the Miami channel and were promptly chased down by the marine police for heading up the Governors Cut channel …. Apparently it’s closed when any of the cruise ships are docked!  Who knew!

So, we turned around and took the alternate Fisherman’s channel and headed south into Biscayne Bay. The Miami inlet is very busy with lots of traffic.

Biscayne Bay is beautiful sailing, which we enjoyed. With the Miami skyline in the background, the British racing team, among others were practicing throughout the bay.

After a nice sail down Biscayne Bay, we dropped the hook off of Key Biscayne and settled down to watch the sunset.imageimage

It was a big day … Tired pup!

We are now in Islamorada, so more on that trek tomorrow 🙂
