Doboy Sound Anchorage

Well, after 1200 nautical miles covered in the state of Florida (including the Conch Republic, Gulf Coast and Okeechobee Waterway), we officially left Florida today, sailing out of the Fernandina Beach inlet and north up the atlantic coast. Yes, we have chosen to hop outside the Intercoastal Waterway (ICW) and bypass some of Georgia.

We had a nice weather day with mostly east winds from 8 up to 15 knots, temperatures in the upper 70s and a mix of sun and clouds.  We were on the lookout for a North Right whale sighting, but none to be seen 😕.

We are anchored tonight in the Back River just off Doboy Sound in Georgia.

On our trek north over the last week or so involved a stop in St. Augustine, then an overnight north of Jacksonville on the Sister’s Creek free dock (FREE!!). It was a bit tricky getting docked though as the current rips through there.  Can’t complain about a nice dock that is free.

Our last stop in Florida was Fernandina Beach on Amelia Island, which almost convinced us to stay just a little while longer.

We spent a day biking around the island, and toured Fort Clinch.  Fernandina was especially liked by Caleb as his new favorite hangout is the Green Turtle Tavern, where the four-legged crew is welcome.

PBR …. Aahhh, a dogs life is good!

We are settled in for the night with storms about, and planning our trek for tomorrow.

Goodnight all 😴.
